How to set this up?Hopefully you'll find it very simple.
The first important step is that you'll move the application to the Applications folders. At least to a place where it stays.
This is important because when you switch it on a launchd process is created linking back to the application.
If you do move the application around make sure you switch the process off and on and you're fine again.
Now start up Things Folders. You'll see the following screen:
Now click on the Choose button to choose a location. You'll have to choose a folder. In this folder the Things Folders structure is created.
Next you can select different options.
Use a Things Folders directory: Per default Things Folders will create a directory called Things Folders and place all the folders within it. If you don't want the Things Folders directory but place the folders directly in your chosen folder disable this checkbox
Set folder icons: This will give the folders icons corresponding with the icons in Things.
Set links in Things to project folders: This will create links in your Things project to it's folder.
Automatcally change duplicate project names: You need this one enabled if you work with recurring projects. It's not allowed to have duplicate project names because it's likely they both end up in the logbook and you can't have duplicate file names in a folder. With this option enabled the project will be renamed in Things by adding the creation date at the end.
OpenMeta tag folders with tags form Things: This will tag your projects, project folders and area folders with OpenMeta tags with the tags form Things.
Organize projects folders in the logbook folder: This will switch organizing on. You can also define when a logged project should be organized based on the completion date.
Show window while running: Things Folders is a background application. But in case you'll want to see some action you can choose here to see a window every time the magic happens.
Show Growl Message: You can also use Growl to notify you when some folders have been made or changed.
Now all you have to do is click on 'On'. You'll see a spinning wheel and then a window explaining that the background proces has started.
And if you have selected to see the window while running than it will show up in a little while.
That's it! You're setup!
Now every time your Things database have been changed Things Folders will check in the background if it needs to make or move some folders.
Depending if you've selected to see the window while running this window will pop up once in a while to inform you what has happened.
